The obscure story of the Shunammite woman in the Elisha story cycle of 2 Kings 1-13 holds interesting foreshadows of the Christmas story. In this first episode we reflect on the generosity of the Shunammite woman building a room on the roof of her house for Elisha's exclusive use. We compare this story with the classic "no room in the inn" aspect of the Christmas story. We then imagine all the reasons why there may have been no room in the inn for Jesus, and ask ourselves if we are perhaps crowding out Jesus in some of the same ways. We end by seeing the Shunammite's generosity as the antithesis to the Bethlehem Inn Keeper.
